BLOG

We know trying a new salon can feel like a commitment. You've got your routines, your trust issues with whoever butchered your highlights in 2019, and a very reasonable skepticism about anyone new touching your hair.

We completely understand. So we want to pull back the curtain and tell you exactly what walking through our doors for the first time looks like.

Before You Even Arrive

Booking is easy through our website or by calling us directly. New clients are always welcome to reach out with questions first — whether that's via Instagram DM, a phone call, or a text. We'd rather answer your questions upfront than have you show up unsure of what you're getting into.

When you book, you'll choose your service type. Not sure exactly what you need? Book a consultation — it's the best way for us to look at your hair in person, talk through your goals, and make sure we're setting you up for the right appointment.

When You Walk In

Blondetourage isn't a "sign in on an iPad and stare at the wall" kind of salon. You'll be greeted, your stylist will come introduce themselves, and before anything touches your hair, you'll sit down for a real conversation about what you're looking for. We look at your hair, your current color history, your lifestyle, and your inspiration photos.

We take consultations seriously because the worst thing that can happen in a salon is a miscommunication about what someone wanted. We'd rather spend 10 extra minutes on the front end making sure we're aligned than have anyone leave disappointed.

During Your Appointment

Depending on your service, you'll be in our chair for anywhere from 1.5 to 5+ hours. Color services take time, and we will never rush a process to get you out the door faster — that's how mistakes happen.

While you're here, you can expect complimentary beverages (including our famous espresso martinis for the girls who want to make it a vibe), a scalp massage during your shampoo, and genuinely good conversation. Our team is the kind of crew that makes you feel like you've known them forever by the time you leave.

After Your Service

Before you check out, your stylist will walk you through what they did — the products they used, what to do at home to maintain your color or extensions, and when they recommend you come back. No vague "see you in a few months." We like to set you up with a clear plan.

We also retail a curated selection of professional products in the salon so you can take home exactly what your stylist used on your hair.

About Blondetourage

We're a luxury Houston hair salon specializing in healthy color, blonding, and custom hand-tied hair extensions using our own Ghost Hair Co. line. Our clients drive from all over the Houston area — and some from a couple hours away — because they trust our team and the experience we provide.

Our average service investment ranges from $400–$1,000, and we believe every dollar should feel completely worth it from the moment you walk in to the moment you leave.

Ready to see what everyone is talking about?

We're located in Houston, Texas, and we can't wait to meet you.

Houston summers don't play. Between the heat index sitting at "actually feels like 105," the humidity that turns a blowout into a memory within 20 minutes, and the weekends spent in pools and on boats — your hair takes a beating from June through September.

We see it every year. Clients come in with faded color, dried-out ends, and the look of someone who has been victimized by the climate. So we put together the real, honest summer hair guide from the stylists at Blondetourage.

Stop Washing Your Hair Every Day

We know this one feels counterintuitive in a sweaty Houston summer, but daily washing is one of the fastest ways to fade your color and strip your hair of its natural oils. Try to stretch to every 2–3 days. Dry shampoo is your best friend on the in-between days — we carry options in the salon for every hair type.

Protect Before You Get in the Pool

Chlorine and color are not a match made in heaven. Before you jump in, saturate your hair with clean water — your hair can only absorb so much, and if it's already full, there's less room for the chlorine to sneak in. Even better, throw a leave-in conditioner on before you swim. A quick rinse immediately after getting out of the pool also makes a huge difference.

Heat Styling: Less Is More

We know you want your blowout. And yes, your hair looks amazing when it's styled. But give your hair a few air-dry days each week when you can. If you are going to heat style, always — always — use a heat protectant. Ask your stylist at your next appointment for a recommendation based on your specific color and texture.

Don't Skip Your Gloss Appointments

A toning gloss appointment is one of the most underrated services we offer. It takes about 30 minutes, keeps your color looking fresh and vibrant between major color appointments, and is the reason some of our clients' hair always looks like they just left the salon. If your color is looking a little dull or brassy, a gloss can bring it right back.

Invest in One Good Product

You don't need a 12-step hair routine. But you do need at least one really good product for your hair type — whether that's a weekly mask, a hydrating oil, or a leave-in conditioner. Not sure what that is for you? Our stylists genuinely love talking about this stuff. Ask at your next appointment and they'll point you in the right direction from our retail selection.

The Most Important Tip: Book Your Appointment Before Summer Gets Away From You

Summer is always the season where people think "I'll book next week" until suddenly it's August and they've missed the whole thing with sad, faded hair. Book your color or touch-up appointment now so you actually have the hair you want all summer.

Let's be honest — extensions have a reputation problem. You've heard the horror stories: visible wefts, damage, hair that looks like it was attached in a parking lot. We get it. And that's exactly why we want to talk about what hand-tied extensions actually are, and why they're nothing like what you're picturing.

At Blondetourage Salon, extensions aren't an add-on — they're a specialty. And the hair we use? It's Ghost Hair Co., our own line of seamless, 100% human hair that we genuinely believe is the best extension hair available in Houston.

So, What Are Hand-Tied Extensions?

Hand-tied extensions are wefts of hair that are sewn onto a small bead track. The weft sits flat against your head, moves naturally with your own hair, and — when installed by someone who knows what they're doing — is completely undetectable. No bulk, no weird texture, no "I can obviously tell those are extensions" moment.

The result is length, volume, or both, depending on what you're after.

What Can I Expect at My Appointment?

Every extension client at Blondetourage starts with a thorough consultation. We'll talk through your hair goals, assess your natural hair, and figure out how many rows and what length will get you there. We carry Ghost Hair Co. in 18" and 22" lengths and can color-match to virtually any shade — we do this for blondes, brunettes, and everything in between.

A typical installation appointment takes anywhere from 2–4 hours depending on the amount of hair being installed. Plan to sit back, relax, enjoy a complimentary espresso martini, and honestly just let us do our thing.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Most people are great candidates for extensions — you don't need super long or thick hair to start. We do recommend a consultation if you have very fine or damaged hair, just so we can set realistic expectations and make sure your natural hair is healthy enough to support the install.

Maintenance: What You Actually Need to Know

Hand-tied extensions typically need to be moved up every 6–8 weeks as your natural hair grows. This isn't the same as a reinstall — it's a maintenance appointment where the tracks are repositioned and any shed hair is removed. Most of our extension clients keep the same hair for several rounds of move-ups, which makes the long-term cost more manageable than people expect.

Why Ghost Hair Co.?

Because it's the hair our owner Jami has spent years sourcing and perfecting. Ghost Hair Co. is seamless, silky, and blends so naturally with real hair that even other stylists can't tell you have it. It's the hair we'd put in our own heads — and have. Ready to stop thinking about extensions and actually get them?
