Hand-Tied Extensions in Houston: Everything You Need to Know Before Your First Appointment

Let's be honest — extensions have a reputation problem. You've heard the horror stories: visible wefts, damage, hair that looks like it was attached in a parking lot. We get it. And that's exactly why we want to talk about what hand-tied extensions actually are, and why they're nothing like what you're picturing.

At Blondetourage Salon, extensions aren't an add-on — they're a specialty. And the hair we use? It's Ghost Hair Co., our own line of seamless, 100% human hair that we genuinely believe is the best extension hair available in Houston.

So, What Are Hand-Tied Extensions?

Hand-tied extensions are wefts of hair that are sewn onto a small bead track. The weft sits flat against your head, moves naturally with your own hair, and — when installed by someone who knows what they're doing — is completely undetectable. No bulk, no weird texture, no "I can obviously tell those are extensions" moment.

The result is length, volume, or both, depending on what you're after.

What Can I Expect at My Appointment?

Every extension client at Blondetourage starts with a thorough consultation. We'll talk through your hair goals, assess your natural hair, and figure out how many rows and what length will get you there. We carry Ghost Hair Co. in 18" and 22" lengths and can color-match to virtually any shade — we do this for blondes, brunettes, and everything in between.

A typical installation appointment takes anywhere from 2–4 hours depending on the amount of hair being installed. Plan to sit back, relax, enjoy a complimentary espresso martini, and honestly just let us do our thing.

Who Is a Good Candidate?

Most people are great candidates for extensions — you don't need super long or thick hair to start. We do recommend a consultation if you have very fine or damaged hair, just so we can set realistic expectations and make sure your natural hair is healthy enough to support the install.

Maintenance: What You Actually Need to Know

Hand-tied extensions typically need to be moved up every 6–8 weeks as your natural hair grows. This isn't the same as a reinstall — it's a maintenance appointment where the tracks are repositioned and any shed hair is removed. Most of our extension clients keep the same hair for several rounds of move-ups, which makes the long-term cost more manageable than people expect.

Why Ghost Hair Co.?

Because it's the hair our owner Jami has spent years sourcing and perfecting. Ghost Hair Co. is seamless, silky, and blends so naturally with real hair that even other stylists can't tell you have it. It's the hair we'd put in our own heads — and have. Ready to stop thinking about extensions and actually get them?
